Elbow Pain

MOVE FREELY AGAIN WITH OUR ELBOW PAIN TREATMENT

Overview

Elbow pain can be the result of any number of repetitive activities, especially sports like tennis, baseball, and golf. Overuse of the elbow muscles can be one reason to start experiencing different types of pain. The elbow joint is held together by ligaments, muscles, and tendons, which can all be sources of pain. Pain in the elbow can be accompanied by stiffness, tenderness, and weakness, all of which can make it difficult to perform daily activities.

Different Kinds of Elbow Disorders

Lateral epicondylitis or tennis elbow is very common and regardless of its name, affects all kinds of individuals. The condition occurs when the tendons outside of the elbow, which connect to the forearm muscles, get inflamed. Repeated activity over a prolonged period of time causes damage to the forearm muscles and tendons.

Golfer’s elbow is another reason you may be experiencing pain in that part of the body. Also called medial epicondylitis, this condition involves the inner tendons of the forearm muscles, which attach to the bony bump in the elbow.

A distal biceps tendon tear can also be the cause of a painful elbow. The biceps muscles connect to the elbow and shoulder through tendons. Although not very common, tears of the biceps tendon at the elbow are possible. A partial tear is when the soft tissue suffers damage, but the tendon is not completely severed.

Causes

Tennis elbow is a consequence of repeating similar motions over a long time, like swinging a tennis racquet. Pain usually generates from the weakening of the Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis (ECRB) muscle, due to microscopic tears from overuse. Golfer’s elbow occurs for the same reason. These two conditions can manifest in any person who engages in repetitive motions like painting, cooking, and handy work. Distal biceps tendon partial tears are mainly the result of a sudden injury.

Symptoms

Besides pain, tennis and golfer’s elbow comes with some tenderness of the affected region, burning, stiffness, and numbness. Weakness may also occur, making it hard to grip objects. Severe pain and swelling accompany a partial tear to the biceps muscles at the elbow. The elbow and forearm may also show visible bruising.

Cold Laser Therapy As An Option

Cold laser therapy is one treatment that can treat tendon injuries like tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and biceps tendonitis. Using a small handheld device, we directly target your area of discomfort for several minutes. During this time, small non-thermal photons of light pass through the layers skin penetrating further than any ice or heat treatments can reach.  Once the light passes through the skin layers to damaged tissue, it is absorbed by cells in the affected area. A fascinating series of events is then initiated which results in a sort of “self repair” of the damaged tissue. Here is where the pain, swelling and overall inflammation is reduced while healing is accelerated.
